5G for live video contribution continues to grow

The first subject from the 2025 Broadcast Transformation Report was the use of cellular networks and 5G for live video contribution. 76% of survey respondents who are currently using cellular networks are using 5G and 21% plan to in the next year with the main reasons being greater bandwidth (55%), lower latency (50%), and cost savings (31%). As Morton Brandstrup explains, it’s a trend that they’ve seen at TV 2 Denmark for quite some time:

SRT surges ahead

Usage of the Haivision-invented Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol increased by another 9%, jumping from 68% to 77% in 2025. This increase makes SRT the industry’s most used transport protocol by a wide margin with RTMP coming in second at 58%. AI adoption accelerates

AI is a hot topic everywhere including in the broadcast industry. A quarter of respondents answered that they are currently using AI in their workflows, up 9% from last year, and 64% believe that it will have a huge impact on the industry in the next five years.

Brad Cheney sees the benefits of AI and believes it will help Fox Sports with some aspects of production soon, but not necessarily with content creation:
