In many circumstances, reliable, low-latency video distribution isn’t the only priority – cybersecurity plays a critical role in effective operations for organizations. As a result, cybersecurity and interoperability are determining factors in the acquisition of new video distribution systems for Federal government agencies. It’s in these instances that the Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN) Approved Products List (APL) is a valuable tool in the acquisition process.

What exactly does it mean for Haivision’s products to be DoDIN APL-certified? This post summarizes what the DoDIN APL is, how organizations leverage it, and which Haivision products are certified.

The DoDIN APL List: What it Means

The DoDIN APL, also known as the Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (UC APL), is a single consolidated list of communication and collaboration products that meet official U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity and interoperability standards. The APL is the master list of products that are secure, trusted, and certified for deployment within the DoD’s technology infrastructure. Ultimately, the DoDIN APL is a tool to be leveraged when making decisions about equipment acquisitions.

Typically, the onus of certifying new equipment that is not listed on the DoDIN APL falls on the customer to evaluate a solution’s cybersecurity and interoperability compliance on a case-by-case basis. Over the years of supporting customers across every branch of the DoD – the Army, Air Force, Navy, Space Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and National Guard Bureau – as well as throughout the Federal Civilian agencies, we recognized that having Haivision’s products on the DoDIN Approved Products List would result in significant time savings by simplifying the acquisition process and providing greater peace of mind for our customers. From Haivision’s perspective, product listings on the DoDIN APL were a natural extension of our commitment to customer support.

DoDIN-APL Certified Video Distribution System (VDS)

Haivision’s certification of its Video Distribution System represents the only Open Video Distribution System over IP (VDS-IP) on the DoDIN Approved Products List, meaning Haivision’s solution is accessible from and capable of interfacing with DoD IP-routed networks.

As part of our DoDIN APL testing, Haivision’s solution also achieved Interoperability (IO) certification from the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC). Another important aspect of our certification is that Haivision solutions support IPv6 requirements to send, receive, or support video and data across DoD networks.

“Haivision’s DoDIN APL certification signifies our commitment to the success of our government and defense customers,” said Alex Beck, Senior Vice President, Defense & Aerospace, Haivision. “The time and energy we invest to ensure our customers’ systems adhere to their standards and certification processes now extend past project-by-project efforts as a result of our place on the DoDIN Approved Products List, ultimately making our customers’ lives easier.”
