About BILD
One of Germany’s largest newspapers, BILD serves almost 4 million readers and is published Monday to Saturday by Axel Springer AG.
“It’s an honor to work on streaming the German elections and Haivision is a great partner for this live streaming production. We’ve worked with Haivision for many years and their Makito X and KB encoders work great in our live production and streaming environments because of the quality and reliability of the video streams.”

The Challenge
To cover the election results as they unfolded, BILD turned to production and live streaming company Camcast to produce a live streaming experience for online audiences.
Camcast orchestrated the live production, streaming live from the Berlin campaign headquarters of four parties in the election, including the CDU, SPD, FDP, and Bündnis 90 Die Grünen for BILD, one of the most well-known German newspapers.
To get the live streams from the campaign headquarters into the BILD production center, Camcast needed a streaming solution that could get high quality, low latency video using public internet connections.
The Solution
High quality, low latency streams
For the live streaming workflow, BILD and Camcast relied on Haivision’s video streaming technology to broadcast live from the four party headquarters to online audiences. Using Haivision’s Makito X video encoders and decoders and SRT technology, Camcast was able to send low latency, reliable streams using public internet connections from the party headquarters to the BILD production center in Berlin. Using Haivision’s KB encoder, the produced live stream was sent to a CDN for delivery to BILD.DE and the social media platforms.
Flexible and cost-effective
Internet-based video transport offers a flexible and cost-effective alternative for sending video used in remote workflows and news gathering to broadcast centers. Haivision’s encoders and decoders are used by broadcasters globally to send high quality, low latency streams to production centers using any type of network, including LTE wireless, public internet and satellite links affected by weather.
