Enterprise Content Delivery Network (eCDN)

Learn more about eCDNs and their applications in this video.

An Enterprise Content Delivery Network (eCDN) is a content delivery network (see also CDN) that makes use of private networks including LANs and WANs for delivering content. Within the context of video streaming, this means that proxy and cache servers can be located within an organization’s LAN and WAN or within a dedicated datacenter or cloud instance.

For internal video streaming for viewing amongst employees, a company can use an eCDN to ensure efficient delivery as well as minimal impact on overall bandwidth availability. Popular content can be cached on local LAN servers while older video files can remain on an origin server located on a WAN or in the cloud.

In some cases eCDNs can also be used to delivery content to external viewers such as customers and partners. An eCDN can be used to deliver video directly to the internet or leverage an organization’s global network to deliver content to the nearest public CDN ingest server.
